Ever feel overwhelmed? 
I certainly have this month. Where has the time gone?

I'm slap bang in the middle to Bucks Open Studios! It's going well, if a little tiring. Mainly due to the level of activity involved prior to the exhibition.

Now it's all in place and I'm painting during the day, I can focus on caricaturing in the evening!

And I need to...

I'm caricaturing at the Force India F1 Corporate event for the British Grand Prix on the 10th July.

Since then I've also had an enquiry about a similar event for Mercedes Benz... which I had to turn down because it's on the same day! 

I'm a bit gutted about that! 

But a Prior commitment has to be honoured.


Which means I need to get up to speed! I think I'll be posting more caricatures over the next 3 weeks.

I'm focusing on heads. The brief is to create a set design with the F1 Car on which I'll be printing up beforehand, once it's approved.

Big Girls you are beautiful

After doing so many svelte women. I thought it was time to celebrate the voluptuous! And, with the Mika song running through my head, I present Big girls you are beautiful

Firstly, one of my all time favourite comedians Dawn French. My initial thought was to do a ballet, but then I remembered this…

“The mirror” from the fabulous Vicar of Dibley.

I don’t think I can improve on that! So I decided to go for a high wire act instead.

Voila!

 

My other candidate for big is beautiful Cass Eliot or Mama Cass as she will be forever known late of the Mamas and the Papas. The voice of an angel who sadly died far too young.

Any excuse to hear her sing here’s “Dream a little dream”

I thought I’d go with a singing in the street vibe with sultry overtones…

And this has just reminded me of Hattie Jacques, another big woman who could do sexy as this photo proves!

Yep, Hattie Jacques and maybe Barbara Windsor for next week…

Having just found out she was the voice of the Dormouse in Alice in Wonderland, she’s definitely going in!

Live portraits!!!!!!!!

Feeling a bit nervous about drawing in public. Plucked up the courage to do some drawing at my son's toddler group today. Results were OK but I can't believe how nervous I felt drawing in public again after so long. Recently I've only done pictures of family or worked from pictures or still life images. People move... No way to avoid it, got to do more stuff in public. Looking at various websites and books, keep going from thinking I can do better than him to I want to do pictures like those. I know I can but I need to practice and hone my skills more. Am I going to be ready by 22nd!!!!!!! So much to do and so little time. Pencils at dawn.

Completed todays offering. Had to photograph it and then upload it after some tweaking so the image quality is a bit poor. These gremlins keep appearing. Still, this is the result. They always look so much tighter when they're reduced!

Really enjoyed this one, a few things I'd change the next time I do it but quite a pleasing result. Yes, I'm going to do it again! Lots of practice required. Had a problem scanning the image. I need to find some outlets for my drawing now. Thinking of trying some quickies at my son's school fete on 22nd June. Just need to work on speed and "stock poses", you know the ballet dancer, footballer, etc.
